Driving yourself to the gate
You can drive yourself to Madikwe — the roads are tar the whole way and a normal sedan is fine. What you cannot do is drive inside the reserve: once you are through the gate your vehicle stays at the lodge and all game viewing is done in the lodge's open vehicles with its guides.
Most guests collect a car at OR Tambo or Lanseria. Allow four hours for the drive and aim to arrive before the gates close at 18h00.
